The vocal scores include two French editions, one by Brandus & Dufour, Paris (1867?, pl. no. B. & D. 11,211) and one by Joubert, Paris (188-?, pl. no. B. & D. 11,211); one German edition, with additional French text, by Bote & Bock, Berlin (187-?, pl. nos. 7526--7554); and one English edition with additional French text by Boosey, London (1872). Of the latter four copies are arranged as stage manager's guides. The orchestra parts include three sets of manuscript parts, one set bearing the stamp of the Thalia Theatre; one set of printed parts with vocal cues in French, and one set of parts for the "Galop" from the opera. The vocal parts and chorus parts are manuscript, in German. Several parts carry performers' names and some contain alternate text. The promptbooks include 16 typed English books, one of which is unbound and incomplete, and six of which are marked "Casino version"; five mimeoed manuscript books in English; one printed book in English with the stamp of Arthur Bell; and four manuscript books in English, one bearing the name of Fred Solomon and containing a playbill pasted into the front cover, with cast members' names. Four promptbooks are manuscript, in German. The dialogue parts include 24 German manuscript parts, several of which are fragmentary, 89 English typed or mimeoed parts, 49 English parts in mimeoed manuscript, and 7 manuscript parts in English. The manuscript parts form one set labelled "special version," and seven sets of typed parts are marked "Casino version." Many of these parts carry names of performers and several are fragmentary." The accompanying material consists of a programme from the Grand Opera House, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, dated 1882 and listing the cast for a production of the work.

He had a strong influence in popular music in Europe, and was one of the originators of the operetta, of which he wrote more than one hundred. Henri Meilhac was a French dramatist, who often collaborated with Ludovic Halévy.
